First of all, thanks for visiting my site. My name is John and I hope you like my work.
My love of art began at school but it took a back seat as I left and pursued other interests. It was reignited in 2015 when I was challenged to draw a friend's dog from a photo. Since then I haven't put my pencils down!
I strive to achieve photo-realism in my portraits, and capture so much more than an image, but the personality and character of your beloved companion as well.
My favourite medium is pastel. I love the depth, definition and realism that can be achieved with a sharp set of pencils!
My preferred 'tools for the job' for coloured portraits are both Faber Castell PITT pastel pencils and Stabilo Carbothello pastel pencils. Both pencils provide a slightly different application, with the Carbothellos being softer, and the PITTS excellent for details. I'm currently experimenting with surfaces, but I have found most success using Clairefontaine PastelMat.
In addition to those items, I also use a few other bits and pieces, mainly from Caran d'Ache and Prisma. All of the materials I use are artist quality and lightfast, meaning that my creations will stand the test of time.
In my spare time, you can often find me in the mountains of England and Wales. They hold a very special place in my heart and I have always been able to balance my equilibrium there!
Sitting solitude on the summit of a rocky peak and exposed to the elements has always allowed me to reset and refocus my mind. I can then apply this renewed vigour to all aspects of my life; especially drawing.
